For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne giving righteous judgment. (Ps 9:7)

The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever (Ps 29:10)

There are two verses in the Bible that talks about "sits enthroned" (sat on the throne). One points to sitting on the throne on the judgment day when all power, glory, and honor returns to Jesus. This enthronement is expected. Another takes place during a time of floods. This points to natural disasters. Farmers are most affected by two types of disaster, one is drought and the other is flood. A flash flood can happen so fast, the damage is immediate. Victims have no time to run. It is an inescapable disaster. In light of the current pandemic, nobody can escape the fear and hurt it may cause. It does not matter if you are rich and powerful or poor and weak, the fear is the same. But God is right here and now, and He is certainly in control. He sits enthroned! We are in His kind and merciful hands. We trust that the pandemic will not overcome our faith and will not replace our joy. Facing this pandemic, we do what we need to do and in Him, we rest confidently in as He is faithful.

Psalm 29 describes the Lord God’s power and glory. It tells us God is higher than all. When disaster strikes, we can see the tremendous destruction rushing to us and we have nowhere to hide. But the psalmist tells us that God still sits enthroned, holding the pearl of wisdom in His hands. This is an image of the King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords. As humans, we cannot run away from disasters. But God is here, He will not sit unmoved. He is in command.  Whether He remove us from all dangers or not, we trust that He will walk with us through all circumstances.  This is our opportunity to learn to trust in Him with faith. We may not know how long this pandemic will last. But it will not outlast our God. When the virus is no more, God still sits enthroned. This is the promise in the Bible.

COPING WITH COVID-19
